SAGICOR enters the 16th year of its Sigma Corporate Run with a proud track record of contribution to institutions in dire need of help to continue providing Jamaicans with critical health services.

Since the first staging of the event in February 1999, Sagicor has raised a total of $124,548,082 which has served to enhance the services offered by Jamaica Foundation for Cardiac Disease; Sophie’s Place; Mustard Seed Communities; Bustamante Hospital for Children; University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI); Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre; National Blood Transfusion Service (Blood Bank); Jamaica Aids Support for Life; Cornwall Regional, and Kingston Public, May Pen, Victoria Jubilee, Savanna-la-Mar, and Mandeville hospitals; Jamaica Society for the Blind; Jamaica Association for the Deaf; Chain of Hope Jamaica; Jamaica National Children’s Home; and Best Care Lodge.

This year, organisers of the event hope to raise $17 million, the bulk of which will be distributed to the Special Care Nursery at the UHWI; the Sickle Cell Unit at University of the West Indies, and by extension, the Sickle Cell Trust in Mandeville; and the Jamaica Kidney for Kids Foundation.

Yesterday, Donovan Perkins, president and CEO of Sagicor Investments Jamaica, explained to the Jamaica Observer Monday Exchange that some of the funds raised from the event are allocated for maintenance of equipment bought for the beneficiaries.

The 5k, regarded as the Caribbean’s largest road race, is scheduled for February 16 starting at 7:30 am with the event for wheelchair-bound participants.
