THE best-of-three finals of the 2013/2014 KFC/ISSA Southern Conference Schoolboys Under-16 and Under-19 Leagues tip off today at the Stadium Basketball Courts.

Action in the Under-16 final will be played between defending champions Ardenne High and St George’s College beginning at 2:00 pm, while the Under-19 final will have Kingston College (KC) facing Wolmer’s Boys, starting at 3:30 pm.

Meanwhile, Game One in both finals were scheduled to be played on Monday, but due to heavy showers, the matches were postponed.

All four schools won their respective semi-finals which were played last week. Ardenne stopped Jamaica College, and St George’s College defeated Calabar High in the Under-16. Wolmer’s stopped a late burst from Campion College, and KC held Jamaica College’s late charge.

Ardenne, coached by Basil Barrett, and St George’s College, who has Clifford Brown as their coach, are both expected to go all out in an effort to take an early lead in the three games.

St George’s will be depending heavily on key player Malik Johnson, who has been their lead scorer this season, with Tafari Simms and Alexia Tillstrum expected to assist in scoring.

Matthew Leel should lead Ardenne’s charge with the support to come from Justin Rhoden and D’Andre Forbes.

The Under-19 final should bring out the best from both teams. Wolmer’s will be looking for their first claim on the title, but will have to contend with a tough challenge from many-time champions KC.

Wolmer’s coach Howard Harvey sees this as a very important game and will be hunting victory in order to take the lead going into the second game next Monday.

He hopes that Akeem Parchment, Yogeros Smith, Aston Wright, Keron Alexander, Brian Cameron, and Crishna Sands can hit scoring form against KC.

Setting the pace for KC should be Clifton Jean, Kadeeen O’Sullivan, Daniel Mantillier, and Clifton Lamond.

Meanwhile, third and fourth place play-offs were contested on Tuesday with Jamaica College and Campion College coming out victorious over Calabar High and Jamaica College, respectively, in the Under-16 and Under-19 competitions.

Jamaica College defeated Calabar 57-47 in the Under-16, while Campion College staved off a late challenge from JC to win 54-48.
