Getting the lowdown
IN the world of Honda tuning, it’s very hard to stand out. Yet Wilson Chong has managed to do so with his ’05 Honda Accord with its lowered stance and white-on-white external colour scheme.
“I bought the car because I thought it would be a decent project to build. I’d never seen one modified before,” Chong told Auto.
Modifications started only a month after purchase, and after two years of ownership, he’s got it to where he wants it. The first draw to the Accord is its distinctive appearance. It’s not a factory colour or the OEM silver paint. Chong had the car resprayed in Alpine white. Giving the car some extra impact on the eyes is a Mugen body kit. The side skirts, front lip, rear valance and trunk spoiler add sophistication to what is normally a simple four-door family sedan.
The whole car sports an aggressive stance due to its colour-matched 19-inch Vossen VVS083 wheels and BC ride-height adjustable suspension.
“I don’t really know how low it is, about three or four inches off the ground,” he explained.
According to Chong, they just kept playing with the ride height until they got it to sit right over the 235/35/19-sized tyres. Scraping isn’t an issue, but speedbumps require the infamous lowered Honda crawl manoeuvre.
With the looks sorted out, Chong will eventually move to squeezing more performance out of the car.
“No engine modifications yet, but due time will tell when I’ll move forward on that front,” he said.
