Manchester JCDC prince and princess crowned

MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Ten-year-old Dovani Isaacs and 12-year-old Michalia Fuller, both students of Mandeville Primary and Junior High School, took home the titles of Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Prince and Princess for 2014.

The two were among 11 contestants who competed for the top spot.

JCDC Parish Manager Vivien Morris-Brown said the two children are now cultural ambassadors for the parish as well as their school.

She said that the Festival Prince and Princess Pageant seeks to promote moral upliftment, social and cultural awareness and build the leadership skills of children.

During their reign, Morris-Brown said, the two students will be requested for performances and motivational talks, appear as official guests at JCDC functions and will carry out a project which seeks to provide solutions to an issue which impacts children.

For the finals, held at the Cecil Charlton Hall in Mandeville recently, the contestants had to research a section of the parish and creatively put forward what they learnt through a stage performance.

Morris-Brown said that Festival Prince and Princess Competition is an innovation of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission in the parishes of Manchester, St Elizabeth and Clarendon.
