Cops seize M16 rifle in Dunkirk
THE police on Tuesday seized an M16 rifle during an operation in the volatile east Kingston community of McKintyre Villa, otherwise known as Dunkirk.
Winchroy Budhoo, assistant commissioner of police who heads the Mobile Reserve, said that at about 1:30 pm a police team went to an area called Banana Street and during a search the weapon and several rounds of ammunition were found.
“No one was arrested in connection with the find,” he, however, told the Jamaica Observer.
Tension has been high in the community following killings of two people, including a 17-month-old boy, and the injury of two others in reprisal attacks by gunmen on February 14, Valentine’s Day.
The police have since stepped up patrols in the area. Additionally, several church groups have held prayer meetings with the terrified residents.
