Hundreds of seniors feted in Brown’s Town
Hundreds turned out for the annual Elderly and Indigent Feeding and Empowerment Day at the Brown’s Town Methodist Church Hall in St Ann, last Thursday.
The annual event hosted by the Social Development Commission (SDC) in partnership with the National Council for Senior Citizens, the churches and business community in Brown’s Town and Discovery Bay, is being held for the fourth year.
Staged as a part of the Black History Month celebrations yearly, the elderly and indigent are treated to a day of fellowship, health care, feasting and fun.
Parish Manager of the SDC Richardo Aiken said the event was made a success through the corporation of the various agencies throughout the parish.
“The level of response from other agencies has been tremendous,” Aiken said.
He pointed out that bars and party promoters were among the long list of sponsors who contributed towards the feting of the seniors and indigent.
Approximately 50 organisations including financial institutions, businesses and churches sponsored the event, which saw the large gathering adequately cared for.
Member of Parliament for North West St Ann Dr Dayton Campbell offered his service as a medical doctor to persons in attendance.
Students from the Brown’s Town Community College also joined in the venture.
