Mouthwatering showdowns in St James Senior League
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Two top-of-the-table clashes will highlight today’s St James Football Association Sandals/ATL/Honda Senior League triple header at Jarrett Park, set to start at 3:00 pm.
The lead in both zones of the competition will be at stake as three points or less separate the teams that will be in action today.
Zone A leaders Reggae Youths will face joint second-placed Fogo United in the first game set to start at 3:00 pm, followed by Zone B leaders Violet Kickers taking on Revelation FC in a game that sees a single point separating the top-two teams.
In the third game, set to start at 7:00 pm, Seba FC and Salt Spring United will seek to make up grounds on the Zone B leaders.
All three match-ups had ended in 1-1 scorelines in the first round.
In the only game that was possible on Tuesday due to heavy rains in the second city, Montego Bay United Under-21 scored their first win of the season, edging Catherine Hall 2-1 at Wespow Park in Tucker to avenge a first-round 1-0 loss.
Tavon Barnes in the 24th minute gave Montego Bay United Under-21 the lead at half-time, while Peter Campbell, who represented Jamaica in the CFU Under-15 competition last year, doubled the lead in the 81st minute.
Marlon Excell scored in the 83rd minute to give Catherine Hall hopes of at least a point, but only extended their winless run to four games after winning their first two of the season.
The win brought Montego Bay United Under-21 to six points, one behind Catherine Hall’s seven and two points out of second place.
Meanwhile, the other two games that were postponed have been rescheduled for Saturday afternoon. Little Miami and Lilliput Rovers will meet at Wespow Park, while Melbourne FC and Seaview FC will meet at Albion in those games. Both games are set to start at 3:00 pm.
Today, Reggae Youths and Violet Kickers, both of whom are the only unbeaten teams in the competition so far, will hope they can maintain their places at the top of their respective zones in what should be competitive matches.
Since drawing the first two games, Reggae Youths have reeled off three straight wins, outscoring their opponents 11-1 and will start favourites to beat Fogo United.
Violet Kickers have drawn their last two games, against Lilliput Rovers and Seba FC and will face a Revelation FC team that appears to be regaining some of their early season confidence.
Revelation FC’s Sebastian Robinson and Violet Kickers’ Rayon Binns are tied on five goals each, but while Robinson has scored in his team’s last two games, Binns has not scored in Violet Kickers’ last two outings.
Seba FC could leapfrog as high as second place with a win over last-placed Salt Spring, depending on the result of the Violet Kickers/Revelation FC game.
Salt Spring are yet to win after five games, while Seba FC have added depth to the squad that started the season but have scored just four goals in their five games played so far.
