JLP wants probe into Riverton permit issue

JUNIOR Opposition Spokesman on Science, ICT, Digital Society Development and the Environment, Councillor Duane Smith, has called for an immediate investigation of a press report that the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) has been ignoring the illegal operation of the Riverton City Dump.

Smith noted that frequent fires at the Riverton Dump have not only threatened the health of residents of neighbouring communities, but have caused schools to close, affecting the education of children; factories to send home workers, thus reducing production; and commuters to suffer respiratory problems.
