Vere, STETHS to meet in Headley Cup final
Vere Technical High School and St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) earned the right to meet in this year’s ISSA/Grace Headley Cup three-day cricket final after they recorded convincing semi-final wins on Thursday.
The final will be played at Santa Cruz, starting Tuesday March 18 .
At Comfort Grounds in Manchester in one semi-final, Vere completed a 10-wicket win over Holmwood Technical. Scores: Holmwood 131 and 82 all out; Vere: 190 and 25 without loss.
The losers performed poorly on a pitch which they played many of their home matches this year and it was only Leroy Lugg (35) and Alex Samuels (28), who tried to resist some of the pressure applied by spinners Ryan Burnett (4-24) and Thavi Spencer (3-24).
Rohan Ferguson (69), Fabian Allen (45) and Spencer (32) then played their roles well for their team to get a 59-run first innings lead.
At Three Hills Grounds in St Mary, St Elizabeth Technical outclassed Tacky High by an innings and 54 runs. Scores: Tacky 91 and 62 all out; STETHS 207 all out.
Captain and spinner Ramaul Lewis of STETHS was easily the player of the match claiming 4-23 in the loser’s first innings and 5-11 in the second for a match-haul of nine for 34. In the loser’s first innings, Lewis got support from Kevon Williams (2-8) and Marquino Mindley with 2 -28. Kevon Daley scored 41.
