ORANGE Hill crushed Chantilly by 78 runs to be crowned Westmoreland parish champions in the fourth phase of the Supligen/Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Power Play 10/10 cricket competition at Little London on Sunday.
Orange Hill pocketed the $10,000 winner’s prize, while Chantilly received $5,000 for finishing second. Scores: Orange Hill 114-2 (10 overs); Chantilly 36-9 (10 overs)
Batting first, Man-of-the-Match, Shanda Francis top-scored with a well-played half-century of 51 for Orange Hill, smashing four boundaries and as many sixes off a mere 29 balls. His teammate Jason Thompson chipped in with 39 that made sure their team posted a massive total.
Omar Wade was Chantilly’s best bowler with 2-24.
In reply, needing to score 11.5 runs per over to win, Aldane Samuels and Ewan Andrews took two key early wickets as Chantilly were restricted to 36-9 from their allotted 10 overs. Darian Gordon scored 16 as no other batsman got past five runs, while Samuels finished with 2-1 and Andrews 2-7 to seal the deal for Orange Hill.
Paradise took third place after defeating Sandals White House by 12 runs in the early game at the same venue.
Taking first strike in a game reduced to five overs, Paradise made 59-1, as Vanniel Broomfield fell one short of what could have been a well-deserved half-century, scoring 49.
In reply, Sandals White House got off to a strong start, but were restricted to 47-2 from their allotted five overs. Micheal Frew smashed 18 not out and Rashani Spencer scored 17 against Edward Bacchas’ 2-2.
With Boscobel, Area Two Police, All Century, Deigo’s Eleven, GC Foster, Waterford, Orange Hill and Chantilly booking their spots in the last eight. The attention now turns to the Grand Final weekend in St Mary where they will battle for $100,000 and the championship trophy between May 10 and 11.
