Records fall at Drag Challenge #2
RECORDS were rewritten at last Sunday’s National Drag Racing Circuit Nestle Drag Challenge #2 held at Vernamfield in Clarendon.
Adrian McLymont in the Bad Breed Racecraft’s Ford Mustang set a new V8 Doorslammer class record with a 8.389 quarter-mile pass during the Pro Race 8 final.
“It looks a lot easier on the outside than it does behind the driver’s seat,” McLymont told Auto.
He said the problem has always been a matter of traction on the inconsistent Vernamfield concrete.
“The trick was applying the power at the right moment for maximum acceleration,” he explained.
The car’s owner, Nantwi Coke mirrored the same sentiment.
“It’s great to get the record. Our team has a recipe that works, but we’ll be using the two-month break for some more research and development so we can go even faster,” Coke said.
The second meet for the year, the event was a wholly satisfying experience for drag fans thirsting for action as the first event earlier this year had to be discontinued due to bad weather. The full day of racing saw an action packed elimination round devoid of any major pauses as the 128 entrants were whittled down to the winners.
Josimar Jackson beat Nigel Wilmot for the 16-second class win, despite both breaking out of the time bracket. Super Street 15 went to Jonathan Chin and Super Street 14 was won by Demouy Spence. The Pro Street races were crowd thrillers as the 13-second class was taken by Andrew Morgan and Nicholo Hamilton took home 12-second honours. Adrian Randle won Pro Modified 11 and Pro Modified 10 went to Eugene Grandison. The final head-to-head, Pro Race 8 went to McLymont whose record-breaking performance had the crowd on their feet upon its completion.
The Quick 8, the last event for the day, went to Charles Maxwell.
