Reggae Boyz get ready for Switzerland Friday
LUZERN, Switzerland — Jamaica’s national senior footballers hit the training pitch merely hours after arriving in Switzerland earlier this morning as they began preparation for Friday’s friendly international against the World Cup bound hosts.
The Boyz, who lost their opening game 1-2 against Serbia at the Red Bull Arena on Monday, on the four-game tour, landed in Zurich shortly before 8:00 am, and after swiftly clearing immigration and customs, travelled to the German-speaking city of Luzern, about an hour from Zurich.
Friday’s game is slated for 8:30 pm local time (1:30 pm Jamaica time) at the Swissporarena, Luzern.
They had breakfast immediately upon arrival at their luxurious Grand Hotel National Luzern, nestled on the Vierwalstaettersee (or Luzern lake) then rested for a few hours before departing for the nearby Allmend Luzern training facility for practice at 3:30 pm. The training session lasted over an hour.
Shortly before dinner, the England-based group of Wes Morgan, Adrian Mariappa, Lloyd Doyley, Christopher Humphrey, Joel Grant and Simon Dawkins joined the group at the hotel. Keithy Simpson, who plays in Finland, had arrived in Zurich and was making his way to Luzern, to complete the group of 21 players.
Darren Mattocks and Dwayne Miller, who were booked separately from the rest of the group from New York, arrived early enough to make the training session, as did Demar Phillips, who plays in Scandinavia.
The full squad is Andre Blake, Dwayne Miller, Jacomeno Barrett, Upstan Edwards, Lloyd Doyley, Wes Morgan, Adrian Mariappa, Christopher Humphrey, Joel Grant, Simon Dawkins, Rodolph Austin, John-Ross Edwards, Kemar Lawrence, Demar Phillips, Michael Seaton, Nicholy Finlayson, Romario Campbell, Darren Mattocks, Nicholas Beckett, Hughan Gray, and Keithy Simpson.
