VAZ have taken over the lead at the end of day two of the 2014 Jamaica Independent Schools Association (JISA) Serge Island National Primary Boys’ and Girls’ Track and Field Championships at the National Stadium yesterday.

Today’s action begins at 10:30 am with some 44 finals down to be contested. Fifty-five Prep Schools are participating in the championships.

The Jackson Road-based Vaz lead the combined scores with 33 points after six completed finals, followed by Wolmer’s 30.50, defending champions Hydel 26.50, Quest 24, Our Lady of the Angels 22.50, Mona 19.50 and Ardenne 17.50 points.

Vaz also lead the girls’ category with 22 points, followed by Hydel 15.50, Our Lady of the Angels 14, Quest 13 and Wolmer’s with 12.50 points after three finals.

After three finals, Wolmer’s lead the boys battle with 18 points, followed by Ardenne 17.50, Mona 11.50, Vaz 11, Hydel 11 and Quest 11.

Today’s final day of competition should be quite interesting after yesterday’s semi-finals where the top schools have qualified in the track events.

In one final yesterday, Waukeem Walters of Wolmer’s captured the Class One boys’ long jump with a leap of 4.76 metres ahead of Statford Lowe of Our Lady of the Angels 4.79m, and Janoi Williams of Lannaman’s 4.76 metres.

Onecia Sweeny of Our Lady of the Angels won the Class One girls’ high jump with a leap of 1.25 metres, just getting the better of Malaik Cunningham of Vaz who had the same identical leap of 1.25 metres and Patrice Campbell of Hydel with 1.20 metres.

Valissa Brown of Portmore Missionary won the Class One girls’ high jump with 1.50 metres, edging out Nikkia Robinson of Quest with an identical leap of 1.50m and Aaliyah Whyte of Quest with 1.40 metres.

Sean-Jay Wright of Ardenne and Blaine Ryam of Quest both shared first place in the Class Two boys’ high jump where they both jumped 1.25 metres, with Peter Calvin of Hydel in third spot, also with 1.25 metres.
