Knibb new women’s national discus record holder
FORMER National Junior record holder Kellion Knibb is the new National Senior record holder in the women’s discus throw after she threw a life time best 61.34m on Friday at the US NCAA Division One Eastern Regionals at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.
The former St Jago high athlete, who is in her second year at Florida State, broke the previous mark of 61.21m set in 2012 by another Jamaican Allison Randall.
She also qualified for the NCAA Division One championships to be held in Eugene, Oregon, June 11th -14th.
Earlier this year, Knibb who is coached by Dorian Scott at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida, threw 56.49m to win at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
Knibb, who is ranked second in the NCAA Division One, is quoted as saying she would be competing at the JAAA National Senior Championships later this month for a spot on the team to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland in July-August this year.
Knibb had broken the National Junior record in 2012, while competing at the Senior Championships, beating the previous mark held by former Edwin Allen thrower Tara-Sue Barnett before Holmwood’s Gleneve Grange broke it at the Penn Relays last year.
