Sub Structure releases maiden tag with change of equipment
Trainer Rohan Mathie finally found the problem. After so many tries and disappointment and a rather dismal last run as the 7-5 favourite, Sub Structure found the winning and released his maiden tag. When the bay colt (Shuffling Maddnes-Diablo Forever) returned on Saturday without the blinkers and the reintroduction of the figure-eight and it was a different story. Sub Structure won handily by two lengths in 1:17:0 minutes for 1,200 metres. Although the time was not impressive, what the race indicated was the role equipment play on a racehorse. Well done Sir Mathie.
FITZROY GLISPIE BANG IN FORM
Trainer Fitzroy Glispie without fanfare is cementing himself as one of our better trainers. Glispie continued on his path of development with a fine double last Saturday at the Park. The former top notch, top weight jockey posted a double saddling Princess Shine (Shamaree Muir) and Saga Boy (Georgina Sergeon). Princess Shine (Legal Process-Let’s Hope) came with a strong run to beat El Cliente (Rayan Wilson) going over 1,400 metres, while Saga Boy just lasted home in a bold front running effort to get the better of Smart Bidder (Jevvvanne Erwin) going over 1,400 metres. Racing fans would be wise to follow the fortunes of the Glispie stables.
DOUBLE FOR CARDENAS AND DACOSTA
The combination of jockey Dick Cardenas and champion trainer Wayne DaCosta gave a gentle reminder that they are still a very formidable combination by scoring a working double. Exotic Gold (He’stherealthing – Formally Gold), who was an easy winner in an Overnight Allowance event over 1,600 metres and three-year-old Insane Bolt (Shuffling Maddnes-Golden Olympio), who was also an easy winner among $250,000-$210,000 claiming horses over 1,200 metres. In the case of Insane Bolt, DaCosta and Cardenas received what is commonly known at the racetrack as a ‘scholarship’ as after winning quite easily the time before in claiming company, Insane Bolt was not claimed. DaCosta reacted quickly and placed him on the programme in another claiming race. Another win was in the offing but this time Insane Bolt was claimed.
PAUL HYLTON FINDS A WINNER AT LAST
Trainer Paul Hylton, who has been really finding it hard in recent times to saddle a winner finally visited the winners’ enclosure last Saturday after trying 43 attempts. His first success came when Nannytherealthing, with Davidan Robinson doing duties, came with a storming run to beat the 1-2 favourite Elusive Dream (Orlando Foster) by one-and-a-quarter lengths going over 1,600 metres. Hylton must thank Robinson for the patient and well-timed ride the jockey gave on Nannytherealthing. The stocks of Robinson continue to rise and his ride on Nannytherealthing was yet another expression of his growth as a rider. Robinson has now ridden eight winners from 88 mounts this season. Congrats to both trainer and jockey and continue to do the hard work.
