NADASTROM, the electronic dance music (EDM) duo of Dave Nada and Matt Nordstrom, delivered on their promise of making last Saturday’s We Are Massiv at Whitebones, St Andrew, an experience like no other.

“Kingston was the best vibe, ever,” Nada told the Jamaica Observer.

“Totally inspired,” Nordstrom added. The pair was visiting the island’s capital city for the first time.

Instead of the relying on traditional ‘electronic’ hits, the duo layered them with hardcore dancehall tracks. Within minutes of Nadastrom’s set, the audience became enthralled with their heavy bass to hands-in-the-air dance beats.

“We knew that Jamaica has a very open-minded audience,” Nada said.

Nadastrom then stamped their style on several dancehall hits from Konshens to RDX. They further blended the dancehall flavour, much to the crowd’s delight, as they dropped in a dub plate. It all eventually culminated in an EDM version of the classic Sleng Teng rhythm.

“We are very influenced by dancehall and it’s normally part of our set,” Nada explained.

Nadastrom then topped it all off with a live performance from No-Maddz. Various members of the band took the microphone to deliver their signature lyrics, including the infectious Rise Above Profanity, over the pounding EDM bass lines Nadastrom provided.

For the EDM traditionalists, Kamal Bankay once again delivered as the lead-in to Nadastrom.
