JAMAICANS had won three medals, two silver and a bronze, up to yesterday’s second day of the NACAC Under-23 championship that is being held in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada.

The US-based Tyquendo Tracey took silver in the men’s 100m on Friday’s opening day, while Megan Simmonds was also second in the women’s 100m hurdles yesterday. Long jumper Sedeekie Eddie took the bronze in the men’s long jump, also on Friday.

The three-day championship, which started on Friday and ends today, is being contested by 31 nations, including the USA, hosts Canada, Bahamas, Cuba, Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago.

On Friday, Tracey clocked 10.34 seconds (0.2m/s) in the finals, behind American Diondre Batson’s 10.08 seconds with Trevana Mackey of Bahamas third in 10.30 seconds. Another Jamaican, Kwesi McFarlane, was seventh in 10.49 seconds.

Earlier in the preliminaries Tracey had run 10.34 seconds to qualify for the final, while McFarlane had run 10.39 seconds.

Jenell Kelly ran 12.10 seconds for seventh in the women’s 100m which was run as a straight final.

Yesterday, Simmonds grabbed silver in the women’s sprint hurdles clocking a wind-aided 13.06 seconds (2.2m/s) after running 13.08 seconds in the final at the National Senior Trials.

She was, however, edged out of the gold medal position by American LeTristan Pledger, who clocked 13.04 seconds with Canada’s Ashlea Maddex third in 13.19 seconds. Another Jamaican, Chrisdale McCarthy, was fourth in 13.41 seconds.

Eddie’s bronze came when he landed at 7.41m (1.3m/s) to finish behind two Americans, Braxton Drummond-7.64m (1.1m/s) and Devin Field- 7.51m (1/7m/s), who took gold and silver, respectively. A second Jamaican, Michane Ricketts, was fifth with 7.23m (1.2m/s).
