No gold among 8 medals won by Jamaica at NACAC meet
Jamaica failed to win a gold medal but finished with eight — four silver and four bronze — as the three-day NACAC Under-23 championships ended in in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, on Sunday.
The small Jamaican team added two bronze medals on Sunday’s final day — Everton Clarke in the men’s 200m and Rushell Clayton in the 400m hurdles.
Clarke clocked 20.51 seconds (1.5m/s) as American Remonty McClain won in 20.32 seconds ahead of the Bahamas’ Trevana Mackey (20.46 seconds).
Clayton was third in the 400m hurdles in 1:03.68 minutes as the fourth competitor, Bahamian Katrina Seymour, failed to finish the race. Two Americans, Kiah Seymour (56.35 seconds) and Tyler Brockington (58.29 seconds) won the gold and silver medals, respectively.
Late Saturday, Jamaica earned a silver medal in the men’s 4x100m and a bronze in the women’s.
The men’s team of Kwisi McFarlane, Tyquendo Tracey, Clarke and Jazeel Murphy clocked 38.78 seconds behind the USA (38.47 seconds) with Canada third in 39.89 seconds.
The women’s team of Clayton, Janelle Kelly, Chrisdale McCarthy and Megan Simmonds ran 45.90 seconds for the bronze behind the USA (43.89 seconds) and Canada (45.19 seconds).
All but Kelly are hurdlers.
Meanwhile on Sunday, Andre Clarke was fourth in the 400m hurdles in 51.73 seconds, while the men’s 4x400m team was also fourth in 3:14.66.
Earlier, Jamaicans had won two silver and a bronze from Tyquendo Tracey, who was second in the men’s 100m on Friday’s opening day, while Megan Simmonds was also second in the women’s 100m hurdles Saturday, and long jumper Sedeekie Eddie took the bronze in the men’s long jump on Friday.
