FORMER Jamaica opening batsman Delroy Morgan scored an unbeaten century to lead defending champions Domtar Sports Club to a 69-run win over Wray All-stars in their semi-final encounter of the 2014 Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum Masters Twenty20 cricket competition at the Kensington Cricket Club on Sunday.

The win for Domtar will see them facing 2012 champions Mico Masters in what should be a thrilling grand finale, after Mico Masters chalked up an easy nine-wicket win over St Thomas Eagles in the other semi-final.

Morgan’s century was the first of the tournament, and it was well received by the large crowd as Wray Allstar’s bowlers were put to the sword.

Scores: Domtar SC 205-3 (20 overs); Wray All-stars 136-8 (20 overs). Winning the toss and deciding to field first, Wray All-stars struck early, getting the first wicket with 15 runs on the board.

They were in for some rough treatment thereafter, as Morgan and Marlon Keating belted the ball to all parts of the field in a second-wicket partnership of 115 runs, before Keating retired hurt for a well-played 42 runs off 35 balls, including six fours.

However, Morgan continued his onslaught, clobbering seven fours and two sixes to end unbeaten on an even 100 off 63 balls. Junior Ricketts (28), Winston Myers (21) also contributed, while captain Terrence Corke was the only successful bowler with two for 37.

Wray All-stars requiring a little over 10 runs per over in their quest for victory got off to a disastrous start and were in trouble early after losing four wickets for 39 runs.

The task became impossible and their innings was eventually wrapped up at 136 for eight. Corke’s 43 off 36 balls, inclusive of four fours and a lone six, along with Baldwin Virgo (21) and Raymond Gayle (21) were the only batsmen to offer any resistance. Dave Harris was the pick of the bowlers, bagging four for 22 runs.

Meanwhile, Mico Masters had things their own way in the curtain-raiser against St Thomas Eagles. Scores: St Thomas Eagles 74 all out (18.1 overs); Mico Masters 75-1 (9.1 overs). Batting first, the ‘Eagles’ could not soar and were knocked over for a mere 74, which saw Timothy Wilson (20), Samuel Barrett (20) and Clive Scott (15), as the main scorers.

Carl Brissett with three for seven led the bowling, while Solomon Darby and Christopher Flemmings grabbed two wickets each. In reply, Mico Masters wasted little time as they raced to their target inside 10 overs. Orville Pennant top scored with 46, while Michael Donegal was not out on 26.

Wray All-stars will play St Thomas Eagles in a third-place play-off at 10:00 am, before the final at 2:00 pm at the same venue on Sunday.
