Talented Alacrann impresses on debut
THE juvenile season seems to be coming along pretty good. A number of talented horses are coming to the track and impressing first time of asking. We have already seen Turn Me Loose from the camp of Philip Feanny, Come Dance With Me trained by Dwight Chen, Chalice Pipe conditioned by champion trainer Wayne DaCosta and just a smidgen down Forest Flame who takes orders from Wayne Parchment.
Wednesday’s race card provided punters with the opportunity to witness another youngster with seeming ability. Racing in the familiar silks of Elias Haloute and trained by Anthony Nunes, Alacrann did more than enough to place him on the list of those to follow with a spanking come from behind win.
After tarrying for most of the way in the four furlong straight even, jockey Shane Ellis brought the chestnut colt with what turned out to be a winning run as he was just able to catch Dinner By Seven in, as they say, the ‘glass’, winning by a next with favourite Smokey Topaz third. The winning time of 48.0 seconds is nothing to write home about but the manner of victory was impressive.
Ellis commented after the race that Alacrann despite his lack of speed at the start of the race was a good one in the making and that his talent with normal development will come to the fore. Racing fans, take note.
