Trainer Lawrence Freemantle really on the move
Quietly without much fanfare, as is his nature, trainer Lawrence Freemantle is reaping the benefits of his long years in the racing industry.
Freemantle saddled his 13th winner from 106 starts on Saturday last when Military Move made an enterprising run to win the day’s feature The Kenneth Mattis Trophy, an Overnight Allowance event for three-year-old and upwards venturing over 10 furlongs (2,000 metres).
With veteran jockey Winston Griffiths doing duties, Military Move (Outrigger – Stone Harbor) was an easy four-and-a-half lengths winner over Princess Shine, the mount of O’Brien White and Royal Vibes (Shamaree Muir) in a time of 2:08:2 minutes behind splits of 24:0, 48:3, 1:14:1 and 1:40:3 minutes.
“The jockey (Griffiths) worked him (Military Move) the other morning and said that he was in good nick and that this race was just the race for him as we are pointing him towards the Superstakes in November. I am really happy for the win and very pleased with the performance and a real honour to win the Kenneth Mattis trophy,” Feemantle said.
Steadily and with conviction, Military Move has been improving a lot with each run. His record now stands at eight wins, six second-place finishes and nine third- place positions from 37 starts with lifetime earnings of $4,390,600.00. Two of those wins came this year and Griffiths was aboard the gelding on those two wins.
