Herbert Morrison remain perfect in basketball
SPOT VALLEY, St James — Herbert Morrison Technical extended their perfect run in the Under-16 section of the ISSA Western Conference High Schools basketball competition after beating defending champions Spot Valley High on Thursday.
Herbert Morrison won both games against Spot Valley, while Cornwall College and Muschett High shared wins in their games played at Cornwall, repeating their first-round results.
After a close first quarter where Herbert Morrison led by three points, 9-6, the Montego Bay school then outscored Spot Valley 33-11 over the next three quarters to run out 42-17 winners, before winning the Under-19 game 83-15 in a blow out.
In the Under-16 game, Okieffe Noble scored 18 points and Brendan Dawkins added 16 points for Herbert Morrison, while Roger Hines topscored with eight points for Spot Valley.
Ralique Grant was the topscorer for the Herbert Morrison Under-19 team with 27 points and 13 steals, while Kuwayne Waite scored 22 points and had 12 steals.
In Montego Bay, Cornwall College repeated their Under-16 win over Muschett, winning 52-31, but fell short once again in the Under-19 game, losing 54-58.
Cornwall College led 36-33 going into the final quarter of the Under-19 game, but got outscored 25-18 by Muschett, who were led by Lamon Thompson’s game-high 21 points and Obrien Clarke’s 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Anthony Mowatt scored 18 points for Cornwall, while Antonio Spence scored 12 points.
In the Under -16 game Cornwall took charge in the second quarter when they led 36-9 and cruised to their fifth win by 21 points with Nicholas Gilchrist leading the way with 18 points and 15 rebounds, while Odane Whittaker had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
