Garvey Maceo brings nuff excitement
“I can’t wait for this concert to start! I have been waiting for the teenAGE team to come to my school and the day has finally arrived.”
HIS a fourth form student exclaimed when our tour stopped this week at Garvey Maceo High School in Clarendon. Students were ready in their numbers to recieve what the teenAGE Observer Expression Tours had in store for them.
The Garvey Maceo High School choir started the show off with one of two performances. Their first performance was to the popular traditional song The Blood Prevails and in the latter, the students were treated to the hit song I Believe by Fantasia. They did do a good job on both performances.
Next in line was a Jamaican dialect performed by Alexia Campbell and Sherice Woolcock. This was followed by an inspirational dance to Kirk Franklyn’s Imagine Me, performed by Soroya Moulton and Loressa Barnes. Victoria Edmondson and Shanae Smilke came after and rendered a poem titled No Ambition that was well prepared and received.
Davian Harris was next in line, singing Romain Virgo’s reggae version of Adele’s popular hit song Don’t You Remember. After this performance, it was time for the students to participate in a fun section.
A question was asked by tour host Kesi Asher and Jabriena Bryan was the victor.
Following this was a modelling competition that had students screaming and shouting the name of their favourite participant. Car-lisa Hewitt, a ninth grader was named the most spicy and the favourite. Rushella Walters and Aneka Adams from fifth and fourth form respectively came in second and third.
After recess, it was time to get back to the concert. Shanae Smickle came after with a well choreographed dance piece to Beyonce’s End of Time. Nickaye Brown and Britney Pinnock followed with a duet. They sang Battlefield by Jordin Sparks and did a fair job. Shanique Wright came after with a poem titled Sour Grape.
Garvey Maceo’s Brandon Ranger followed and did an almost accurate choreographed routine inspired by the late king of pop Michael Jackson.
The Culture Club came after and gave a well-rehearsed choral speech that was unfortunately marred by poor sound.
The poem titled Recommendation, by Valerie Brown, performed by Celine Brooks was next on the line-up. She did justice to a well-written poem.
DJ Mad King was next and rocked the crowd with his fast lyrics.
Julian McLeod and Ricardo Robinson from the Well Easy Dancers came after and gave a good showing. Closing off the concert segment was Physical Education teacher Mr Azan. He sure did take us back to the days of King Yellow Man with his deejay piece.
After this segment had ended, the judges were given time to tally scores as the students were left entertained by 2014 Digicel Rising stars alums Young Kings.
After this set, it was time to announce the winners. Third place went to the Well Easy Dancers, second place went to Brandon Ranger. The talented Shanae Smilke and Victoria Edmondson were named the big winners. They all walked away with prizes from tour sponsors.
It was a great end to another tour, much thanks to tour sponsors for making this a reality.
