Grenada, Dominica share Windward Islands cricket title
CASTRIES, St Lucia (CMC) — Kavem Hodge and Johnson Charles scored contrasting centuries as Dominica and Grenada shared title honours in the 2014 Windward Islands Cricket series which ended here on Wednesday.
Dominica started the day on 79 for two chasing 242 for first innings lead and eventually declared on 330 for six at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
Their number three batsman Kevem Hodge occupied the crease until the target was achieved with a responsible 162 off 236 balls in 281 minutes with 14 fours and two sixes.
He featured in a third wicket stand of 172 with Junior Jervier who made 60 highlighted by three fours and one six.
Xavier Gabriel took two for 37 to be St.Lucia’s most successful bowler.
After Dominica’s tea time declaration St. Lucia batted aggressively to the close reaching 174 for one, powered by Johnson Charles who smashed 15 fours and one six for his undefeated 104.
Dennis Louis was also unbeaten 40 while Tarryck Gabriel contributed 20.
Over at the Mindoo Philip Park Grenada picked up a narrow three run lead over St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Batting first Grenada made 252 with the prolific Devon Smith hitting a fluent 58 and Heron Campbell 26. Left arm spinner Alston Bobb returned figures of five for 43 and Keron Cottoy four for 41.
In reply the Vincentians struggled to 149 after slipping from a favourable 60 for one.
Kenneth Denbar topscored with 26 and Alston Bobb batted defiantly for 25 but the Vincentians were undermined by the pace of Nelon Pascal, four for 43 and the orthodox left arm spinner Dennis George, two for 45.
Batting a second time, Grenada sealed a draw getting 161 for eight at the close with Smith again among the runs with a solid 68 while Heron Campbell contributed a useful score of 30.
For the Vincentians Bobb collected three for 45, Denber two for 39 and Cottoy two for 46.
