Frankie Dettori set to partner Bigman In Town in Trinidad
The Complete Racing Guide has been informed that world renowned jockey Lanfranco (Frankie) Dettori is the chosen rider to partner Bigman In Town when he next races in the Caribbean Champion Stakes (1800 metres) on November 29 in Trinidad and Tobago.
Bigman In Town who is trained by Gary Subratie raced in Jamaica during most of this three-year-old season before being shipped to Trinidad where he has developed into one of that country’s top racers and will more than likely race against Triple Crown winner Momentum and Princess Popstar.
Italian by birth, Dettori rose to world acclaim as the stable rider for the Godolphin Racing outfit. He is now a freelance rider having split with Godolphin in 2012. Dettori is the winner of more than 500 Group races with his most celebrated feat coming in 1996 when he rode seven winners on British Champions’ Day at Royal Ascot, one of the top race meets in the world. The Epsom Derby is the only British Classic race not won by Dettori. He was suspended for six months in December 2012 after testing positive for a prohibitive substance.
When asked by the Complete Racing Guide about the prospects of Dettori riding his charge, a smiling Subratie was very coy with his answer.
“There is a strong possibility that Frankie Dettori will partner Bigman In Town come November 29. But for now it is just that, a possibility. Let us wait and see,” Subratie said.
Bigman In Town was partnered by top notch American rider Javier Castellano when he won the Trinidad Derby last year.
