Muschett, Herbert Morrison look to extend winning streaks
SPOT VALLEY, St James — Unbeaten teams Muschett High and Herbert Morrison Technical will be seeking to extend their winning runs today when the ISSA Western Conference High School Basketball Competition continues with four games.
Muschett High lead the Under-19 section with 12 points from six straight wins and will face Spot Valley High, while Herbert Morrison Technical are unbeaten in the Under-16 competition with eight wins and will be home to winless Holland High.
Muschett High should be able to beat Spot Valley in the Under-19 section, but Spot Valley, the defending champions in the Under-16 section, will be fighting for a place in the semi-finals, and are in fourth place on seven points, just two ahead of Holland High and William Knibb Memorial.
Herbert Morrison should win both games against a Holland team still to win a single game this season.
Meanwhile, on Monday, Herbert Morrison won both games against William Knibb Memorial, trouncing the Trelawny school 78-8 in the Under-16 and 66-57 in the Under-19 section.
William Knibb, who are the national champions in the Under-19 section, lost for the first time in three games despite 22 points from Don-Michael Fray.
Kuwayne Waite led all scorers with 23 points, while Fideane Dinham also scored 14 points and had eight rebounds as they won their fourth game to improve to 10 points, to be in third place.
In the Under-16 section, Brendon Dawkins scored 40 points and had 11 steals in the blowout win, while Shaqeal Benti had 13 points and nine assists.
