St Jago, Calabar, St George’s qualify for Southern Conference Schoolboys basketball finals
CALABAR, St Jago and St George’s College are through to the best of three finals of the 2014 Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Southern Conference High Schoolboys Under-16 and Under-19 basketball competition after scoring semi-finals wins at the National Stadium Basketball Courts earlier this week.
All three schools won their respective semi-finals during this week. Game 1 of the best of three finals in the Under-16 and Under-19 are scheduled to get underway next week.
On Monday St Jago play Calabar High in the Under-16 at 3:00 pm, while Calabar go up against St George’s College in the Under-19 at 5:00 pm at the National Stadium Court.
Two new champions are expected to be crowned in the best-of-three finals, as both St George’s College and Kingston College were knocked out in the semi-finals and quarter-finals respectively. Herbert Morrison is the All-Island Under-19 defending champions.
St George’s apart from being the Under-16 champions of last year was also the All-Island champions but will not be defending that title.
In the Under-16 semi-finals played last Monday, St Jago got past defending champions St George’s 31-29 points, while Calabar defeated St Catherine High 41-33 points.
In the Under-19 semi-finals, St George’s College scored a narrow 54-51 points win over Ardenne High, while Calabar pulled off a last quarter thriller winning 48-39 over St Jago.
In St Jago’s 31-29 win had them trailing defending champions St George’s for the first three quarters before picking up the pace in the final quarter to earn a close victory. St George’s led 13-4, 21-10, 24-22. Rushane Wilson got 16 points and nine rebounds for St Jago.
Jordan Kellier scored 20 points and had 28 rebounds for Calabar, while Daniel James got 10 points for St Catherine who lost 41-33. Quarterly scores for the winners were 15-13, 18-22, 27-28 and finally 41-33.
Meanwhile, in the Under-19 semi-finals, St George’s through 16 points from Malix Johnson, Desean Boyd 12 points. Jvawn Graham 11 points and Shaquille Allen 10 points beat Ardenne High 54-51 points. D’Andre Forbes led the scoring for the losers with 17 points and five rebounds.

Schoolboys’ Under-14 and 16 finals on today
CLARENDON PARK, Clarendon- The rural area Under-14 and Under-16 football champions will be crowned today at Juici Field in Clarendon with a double header, set to start at 1:00 pm.
Cornwall College and Titchfield will meet in the Under 14 finals after scoring 2-0 wins in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
Defending rural area Under-16 champions St Elizabeth Technical will take on Rusea’s High in the Under-16 finals.
Cornwall College will seek to win their second Under-14 title in four years after beating Munro College 2-0 at Munro while Titchfield beat Vere Technical 2-0.
STETHS scored a 3-1 win over Lacovia High at STETHS Sports Complex and will take on an impressive Rusea’s High team that hammered Muschett High 4-0 at Irwin High.

Tomorrow’s People still lead despite draw in Western Confed
FALMOUTH, Trelawny – Despite having their winning start to the Jamaica Football Federation’s Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League ended at two games, Tomorrow’s People are still the leaders in the points tables after being held to a 1-1 draw by Village United on Tuesday at the Elleston Wakeland Centre.
A Donville Cornwall goal two minutes before time salvaged a point for Tomorrow’s People who were conceding a goal for the first time this season.
Tomorrow’s People lead with seven points from three games, one point more than Wadadah FC and Savannah SC who have both won their two games played; Sandals White House, Violet Kickers, Granville FC and Jericho Rangers who beat Holland United 2-1 on Tuesday are all on three points.
At Elleston Wakeland, Karlton Drakes gave Village United the lead in the 35th minute but for the second straight game the Trelawny team gave up the lead late in the game and had to settle for a point as Cornwall got the equaliser in the 88th minute. In the previous round, Village led Holland United into time added on but gave up a penalty and drew 2-2.
Meanwhile, promoted Jericho Rangers ambushed Holland United 2-1 at Watson Taylor Park in Lucea for their first win in the competition.
Suwayne Stewart gave the home team the lead in the 25th minute but Stephen Bramwell equalised with his fourth goal of the season in the 51st minute.
Dorrel Jowrey, however, scored what turned out to be the winner in the 58th minute.

Jackson Town FC outscore Wakefield SC
JACKSON TOWN, Trelawny – Jackson Town FC outscored Wakefield SC 4-3 in an exciting game on Wednesday to advance to the second round of the Trelawny Football Association’s Patrick Atkinson-sponsored Knockout competition.
Jackson Town took a 3-0 lead before Wakefield SC stormed back to cut the deficit to one goal and set up an intriguing last 25 minutes.
With the win Jackson Town joins Classic United, Prospect Links, Harmony FC and Coopers Pen FC as the teams that have also qualified for the second round.
On Wednesday, Ahkeem Belford scored the first of his two goals in the 19th minute, Rashaedi Jacob then followed in the 34th minute and Akeem McGrath slotted in the 43rd minute shot Jackson Town into what looked like a solid lead.
The lead was cut just on the stroke of half time by an own goal and Charles Wynter then further diminished the lead when he scored for Wakefield SC in the 54th minute.
Belford then scored his second in the 63rd minute to give Jackson Town a two goal cushion but once again Wakefield came back when Nicoli Galloway scored in the 68th minute.
