Titans, Chargers clash in JPL Twenty20 final
Spanish Town Titans and Ocho Rios Chargers will go head-to-head as they battle for supremacy in the final of the TEF-sponsored Jamaica Premier League (JPL) Twenty20 competition at Treasure Beach Sports Park in St Elizabeth today.
The day’s proceedings will get on the way at 11:00 am with the official opening of the Donald Buchanan Sports Tourism Centre, followed by action on the pitch at 1:30 pm.
Fans will now get to see both teams go up against each other after their much-anticipated first-round clash was called off due to a water-logged outfield.
Spanish Town Titans will be brimming with confidence as they will now have the services of Tamar Lambert, hard-hitting opener Shacoya Thomas and wicket-keeper batsman Horace Miller returning from national duties to boost their batting line-up.
Captain Danza Hyatt, all-rounder Peat Salmon, Brandon King and Darnell McCallum are just a few of the in-form players who are also expected to take the field.
The Titans showcased their attacking ability earlier in the competition. They ended the preliminary round at the top of the six-team table with a net run-rate of 1.10 from four games, and with the $1-million prize close to their grasp, they will not be letting up.
Meanwhile, Ocho Rios Chargers, who finished in second place, will now be seeking to go one better for the ultimate prize. The Chargers will be without West Indies left-arm pacer Sheldon Cotterell, but will welcome back hard-hitting opener John Campbell.
The left-handed batsman, who recently recovered from an illness, announced his return with a solid half-century knock in the Jamaica Franchise team recently and is once again expected to play that vital role at the top of the order.
Captain Joseph Palmer, Ordane Hutchinson, and Jermaine Harrison are also in good knick and will be ready to capitalise on any loose deliveries from the Titans’ bowling unit.
