Nikita! Mr Dependable
Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth — For 10 years, Nikita Miller has been a cornerstone of Jamaica ‘s success on the cricket field.
He has excelled not only with his left-arm finger spin, but as a composed and extremely dependable batsman in the lower order.
This season has been no different. After four matches in the inaugural WICB Professional Cricket League, the 32-year-old Miller is in first place in the Jamaica batting averages with an aggregate 178 runs for an average of 44.50. As always he has been a batsman for crisis situations. His half centuries against the Windward Islands as well as Leeward Islands to guide Jamaica from perilous situations are typical of the man.
Miller has so far taken 17 wickets this season, just one behind Jamaica ‘s top wicket taker and fellow spinner Damion Jacobs. Miller’s wickets have come at a miserly average of 14.05 each.
A native of Williamsfield, close to Aberdeen in northern St Elizabeth, Miller is a past student of St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) — 1995 to 2001.
He played a single Test match for the West Indies back in 2009 as well as 45 One-Day Internationals for the regional side. He has also represented the West Indies ‘A’.
Miller — affectionately called ‘Killa’ by team-mates, opponents and friends — boasts 338 wickets in first class cricket for an average of 16.87 each. As a batsman he has scored 1795 runs at an average of 19.94.
