VIP Attractions says it will invest more than $100 million in another departure lounge at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay during the first quarter of 2015.

At the same time, the airport concierge and lounge service company has received offers to expand into nine international airports to scale the model across the region.

Construction of an additional 3,000 square feet at Club MoBay will begin this month to accommodate a further 800 passengers arriving at Sangster. The new lounge is expected to open April.

“We are thinking of it being more of a premium lounge, but we are still monitoring the trends so the plans might change according to the demand,” Director of International Sales Shelly-Ann Fung told the Jamaica Observer.

“We are building up, so the new lounge will have a panoramic view of the runway and it is self-contained with its own bar and buffet line,” she added.

Former Digicel Jamaica chief executive David Hall launched VIP Attractions in 2011. The company, which provides service under the brands Club MoBay and Club Kingston, has since been expanding its lounges to include concierge offerings and saw a 35 per cent growth in business over the year 2013.

Last year, the company launched its telco services allowing vacationers the option of renting electronic devices, purchasing a Jamaican SIM card and convenient pick-up and drop-off at the airports. The lounge service company also launched its annual corporate card in December which allows passengers unlimited access to the premier departure lounges in Montego Bay and Kingston.

Fung believes that the current expansions should push the company north of the 208 individuals it now employs. Already, VIP Attractions has started advertising an additional 12 senior management posts as part of the process.

“What we are trying to do now is to make sure that the model is perfected so that when we do roll out our new services, it is an easy putt and play,” Fung told Sunday Finance.

“Is it that we are going to hire them on board right this second? No, but it is to see the talents that currently exist and to find the right fit. Recruiting top management takes a little bit longer, so we have to start the process from early,” she said.

VIP Attractions will also be tapping into retail production, photo booth opportunities and full media offerings in line with the opening of the new lounge. The development should enhance airport travelling experience for all stakeholders, including tourists, Jamaicans, diaspora and business clients, according to Fung.

“Instead of hogging the guests in our lounges, we are going to bring the shopping experience to them as part of the retail production process. We may upload things on the iPads that we provide to the tourists, so that they can do online shopping from different outlets,” Fung stated.

She added that the company will also be branding visitors’ souvenirs and perform photo shoots with backdrops of the desired locations as part of the new offerings.
