The winners are…
Tomorrow the winners of the 2015 Youth View Awards will be revealed at the National Indoor Sports Centre.
The glitzy awards show — with red carpet for arrivals, beginning at 5:30 pm — celebrates the Young, Hot and Hype in music, lifestyle and fashion.
In this its eighth staging, YVAs will be hosted by Bambino and Stacious and will feature performances by Tarrus Riley, J Capri, Konshens, Ding Dong, Kranium, and Denyque.
The nominees
Dominating the nominees list is Chronixx, who has nominations in a whopping eight categories.
These include Favourite Local International Artiste; Favourite Cultural Artiste; Celebrity Role Model; Favourite Local Artiste; and Young Hot and Hype Male of the Year. He also scored nominations for his collaboration with Proteje on Who Knows in the categories of Favourite Musical Collaboration and Favourite Music Video. His hit collaboration with Kabaka Pyramid Mi Alright was also nominated for Best Collaboration.
The female with the most nominations this year is Spice, who also picked up eight nominations.
Her biggest 2014 hit So Mi Like It is competing for Favourite Local Music Video, as well as Hottest Summer Song.
Her collaboration with incarcerated deejay Vybz Kartel Conjugal Visit was nominated for Best Collaboration, along with Only Thing Mi Want, which features her and Alkaline. Spice also copped spots in the categories of Female Fashion Icon; Favourite Local Artiste; Favourite Dancehall Artiste; and Young Hot and Hype Female of the Year.
Also prominent this year is Popcaan, with seven nominations. His 2014 hit Everything Is Nice won him nominations for Favourite Local Music Video, Favourite Chart-topping Song, and Hottest Summer Song. Popcaan is also in the running for Favourite Local Artiste; Favourite Local International Artiste; Favourite Dancehall Artiste; and Young Hot and Hype Male of the Year.
Though behind bars, Vybz Kartel still managed to earn six nominations in five categories.
He was nominated to be Favourite Dancehall Artiste and Favourite Local Artiste. Miami Vice Episode and Do Di Maths have both been nominated for Favourite Chart-topping Song.
Miami Vice Episode is also competing for the Hottest Summer Song title. His collaboration with Spice brings his tally up to six.
Konshens, who had an eventful 2014, was rewarded for his hard work with five nominations.
He was nominated for Favourite Local Artiste; Favourite Dancehall Artiste; Male Fashion Icon; Celebrity Role Model; as well as Young, Hot and Hype Male of the Year.
He told the teenAGE, “It is a good feeling to be nominated. It’s the Youth View Awards, and it feels good to know that the youth still recognise the work that we are doing.”
Controversial dancehall artiste Alkaline also received five nominations.
His name is on the lists for Favourite Local Artiste; Favourite Dancehall Artiste; and Young, Hot and Hype Male of the Year.
Holiday Again won him a Hottest Summer Song nomination, along with his collaboration with Spice.
I-Octane, Tifa and Ding Dong walked away with four nominations each. I-Octane was nominated for Favourite Cultural Artiste; Male Fashion Icon; Young Hot and Hype Male of the Year, as well as best collaboration for Can’t Do It, which he voiced with Gaza Slim.
Tifa’s four nominations were in the areas of Favourite Local Artiste; Female Fashion Icon; Celebrity Role Model; and Young Hot and Hype Female.
She flashed teenAGE a bright smile, with two thumbs up saying she felt “Awesome!” after the nominations were announced.
Ding Dong was present in the categories of Male Fashion Icon, Favourite Dancer of the Year, and Best Music Cideo, for Syvah.
Ding Dong Ravers were also nominated for Best Dance Group.
“Super excited, we put out a lot of work throughout the year” was Ding Dong’s response to his four nominations.
Kalado, Denyque and Protoje copped three nominations each.
Personally by Kalado is in the categories of Favourite Local Chart-topping Song, Favourite Music Cideo, and Hottest Summer Song.
Though he was not feeling his usual self at the launch due to a minor accident that he had on his way to the venue, Kalado told the teenAGE team that he was “overzealous” about the nominations.
Denyque shone in the Favourite Local Artiste, Female Fashion Icon and Young Hot and Hype categories, while Protoje is selected as a Favourite Cultural artiste, along with his two nominations for Who Knows with Chronixx.
Disc jockey Bambino, Yendi Phillipps, Ishawna, Gaza Slim and Tessanne Chin all copped two nominations.
The Favourite Entertainment Show category comprises of Entertainment Report; Intense; Ity & Fancy Cat Show; OnStage: and Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall, while the nominated favourite media personalities are Miss Kitty, Bambino, Yendi, Kiki and Jenny Jenny.
In the Favourite Gospel Artiste category are Omari, DJ Nicholas, Kevin Downswell, Jermaine Edwards and Ryan Mark.
Kranium, Ryme Minista, Dutty Berry, Masicka and Latty J have been identified as the favourite Breakout celebrities of 2014.
Competing with Ding Dong for Best Dancer are Orville, Raddy Rich, Sher from DHQ and Kreecha, while Ding Dong Ravers, Shady Squad, Dance Xpressions, Card Unit and Overload Skankaz are the Favourite Dance Group competitors.
The Favourite Selectors are Liquid, Chrome, Boom Boom, Bambino, Foota Hype and Creep, while the Favourite Sound System category is being contested by Renaissance, Stonelove, Coppershot, Chromatic Disco and Bass Odessy.
Rvssian, Not Nice, and Anju Blaxx are vying for Favourite Producer, while the Favourite Video Directors are RD Studios, Scorpio 21 and Rass Kassa.
