Richie Stephens and Mama Carmen
AS Mother’s Day (May 10) approaches, singer Richie Stephens has released For You Mama, a universal salute to mothers including his own, affectionately known as Mama Carmen.
“With Mother’s Day just around the corner, my mother Carmen was definitely on my mind when I wrote For You Mama. The song is actually dedicated to all the mothers in the world, who are there for their kids all day, every day”, Stephens said.
Stephens and his mother have done successful duets. Their first song was Safe With You in 2002, followed four years later by Safe.
The Westmoreland-born Stephens is riding a wave of popularity with his new wave ska hit, Everybody Dance. That song re-energised his career and was the feature of his set at the recent Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival and pre-Valentines concert at the Resort World Casino in New York.
According to Stephens, “2014 was a phenomenal year for me. The plan is to keep the momentum going for the rest of 2015 and so far things seem to be getting better each day.”
