Morris, Miller big winners in LIME’s ‘I Run This Town’
PETERSFIELD High School students Sheldon Morris and Amikah Miller were the big winners in Savanna-la-Mar as they beat all for big prizes in the second instalment of the LIME ‘I Run this Town’ Challenge recently.
Morris was in excellent form as he beat numerous other competitors over 20 metres, posting 2.70 seconds for the distance. In the female category, Miller, a sprinter who will represent her school at the upcoming ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Champs, was the winner. The fourth former stopped the clock at 3.07 seconds.
Both winners had to do various heats to ensure victory. They were eventually rewarded with individual cash prizes of $25,000 and Huawei Y330 mobile phones. More importantly, their victories gifted their school, Petersfield High, another $50,000.
The win gave a lift to at least one of the competitors. “I feel like I achieved something,” said Morris. “I was in a down period. This has changed my outlook on life. It has helped me to look further and be more positive. A little sum can go a long way.”
The sixth-former is not new to track and field. He participated in the 110m hurdles last year at Boys’ Champs, but injury curtailed his progress.
The initiative by LIME is to assist the schools which will participate in the upcoming ISSA Boys’ and Girls’ Championships and to promote the event which takes place at the National Stadium from March 24-28.
