Former champions seek to close gap on Sandals Whitehouse
FROME, Westmoreland — Three former champions — Savannah SC, Granville FC and Wadadah FC — will seek to close the gap on leaders Sandals Whitehouse when the Jamaica Football Federation Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League continues with three games today. Second-placed Savannah SC host last-placed Violet Kickers at Frome, Granville FC are home to Holland United, while Wadadah FC travel to Long Bay Beach Park to meet Beaches Negril. All games are set to start at 3:30 pm.
Sandals Whitehouse are on 37 points after being beaten 3-0 by Montego Bay Boys Club on Saturday, Savannah SC are on 33 points and would move to within a point with a win, Granville are on 30 points and Wadadah FC on 28.
On Sunday, Tomorrow’s People won for the first time since early December when they held off Jericho Rangers and improved to eighth place on 14 points, just out of the relegation zone.
Mervin Brissett scored the first goal in the 10th minute, while Phillip McDonald added a second in the 13th before Kadian Griffiths pulled one back for Jericho in the 43rd minute. Village United got two late goals to beat Salt Marsh United 2-0 at Elleston Wakeland Centre, an own goal in the 78th minute and another in stoppage time from Roneil Cole as they improved to 22 points tied with Montego Bay Boys Club but with an inferior goal difference.
Savannah had beaten Violet Kickers 5-3 in a high-scoring game in the first round and should be able to get the better of the last-placed team today. Wadadah FC have strung together a good run of results and should be able to beat the promoted team a second time this season, while Granville FC will seek to avenge their firstround loss to Holland
