Man charged for priest’s 2013 murder claims self-defence
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The 31-year-old who has been charged for the murder of a Roman Catholic priest, Father Charles Brown, which occurred on July 29, 2013, was remanded when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
The accused, Rohan Deacon, had his bail application postponed until March 16, to allow the prosecution enough time to familiarise itself with the case.
Deacon’s attorney Oliver Smith is claiming self-defence.
Reports from the Hunts Bay police are that Deacon, who was listed as a person of interest, was picked up in Clarendon on Thursday, February 19. He was formally charged on Sunday, March 1.
Brown’s decomposing body was found in bushes with multiple stab wounds on the Plantation Heights main road in St Andrew.
