Multi-million road improvement project underway in Westmoreland
SHEFFIELD, Westmoreland – THE National Works Agency (NWA) and the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) are currently undertaking the much-needed upgrade of the Negril to Sheffield corridor in western Westmoreland at a cost of $225 million.
The Negril to Sheffield road rehabilitation project began in earnest last month and may result in minor traffic delays during the six-month construction period, according to the National Works Agency (NWA).
Community Relations Officer for the NWA Western Region Janel Ricketts, said the project involves the rehabilitation of the 5.6-km stretch of roadway between the Negril roundabout and the intersection of the Sheffield and Springfield roadways.
This, she noted, includes drainage improvement, patching and resurfacing.
“Additionally, the project involves the creation of soft shoulders on both sides of the carriageway and the construction of sidewalks at two critical points,” Ricketts said.
The project is being supervised by the NWA, Ricketts said. She urged motorists to obey the posted warning signals and instructions of flag persons during the period of work.
