Grange Hill High Best from the West

Last week the teenAGE Expression Tours went west, visiting Grange Hill High School.

The talent showcase was hosted by DJ Rushane, who was substituting for resident DJ, Cash Price.

First to take the stage was Delano McMahon. This young man had the crowd in a frenzy when he performed a remix to Throat by Gage. In his remix, Delano deejayed about a female being overly interested in her cellular phone.

Christasha Watkins was next. She performed a rendition of Louise Bennett’s Nuh Lickle Twang. She was well received by her peers.

Kayonn Campbell followed the dub performance and, despite facing problems with the sound system, she pressed on and the crowd responded.

The crowd was treated with a series of hits played by DJ Rushane, much to their delight.

After the musical selections, Amanda Samuels was next to take the stage. The crowd seemed pleased with her performance.

Russalie Brown dramatized a piece that had the crowd erupting in laughter.

The girl duo, Teena Kay Parish and Mickalia performed Beyonce’s 1+1 and Celine Dion’s To Love You More. These two girls delighted the crowd with their melodies and had everyone singing along.

It was now time for a giveaway courtesy of Flow. Renford Green was the winner of this giveaway.

Next to take the stage was Devaughn McNab. He was accompanied by the school’s pianist. He performed a rendition to Justin Beiber’s Never Say Never.

Davianna James, wowed the audience with her performance of Mario’s How Do I Breathe. The crowd sang and clapped along.

Sue-Ann Grey performed a rendition of Adele’s Don’t You Remember. This young lady wooed the crowd and the judges with this popular song. It was evident that she was really into her performance.

Jodiann Heaven came on the stage to perform a poem. The crowd was certainly not pleased with her performance and quickly urged her off stage. However, she was resilient and finished her poem.

Miley Cyrus’s The Climb was performed by Shaneka Levy. This tiny girl had very powerful vocals that shook the crowd.

An original piece entitled Love, was done by Rojay Butler. It was evident on the faces of those in the crowd and the judges that they were impressed with his performance.

Xavia Samuels performed Bruno Mars’ When I was your Man. This young man had the girls in the crowd screaming during his performance.

Kamary McFarlane performed Mariah Carey’s Hero. The crowd was shocked as he delivered the high notes without vocally wavering.

It was time for another giveaway, this time around it was courtesy of the teenAGE Observer. Jaleel Jackson answered the question correctly and was awarded with the giveaway prize.

The crowd was blessed with the gospel song His Blood Will Carry Me performed by Kemoye Mowatt.

Jovanne Balassal performed Chris Martin’s Paper Loving.

Kayla Ebanks & Company, followed the performance of Jovanne. They took to the stage to perform Alicia Keys No One. The crowd sang and clapped along during their performance.

Another rendition of Miley Cyrus’s The Climb was performed by Malia Graham. The crowd realised that her vocal ability was not the best of the day, and as she began to tear up, they sang with her and tried to encourage her.

The trio, Danielle, Amanda and Tavia performed Ed Sheeran’s Thinking out Loud.

To wrap things up for the day, Samantha Smith performed Selena Gomez’s Love You like a Love Song. She worked the stage well, and worked well with her props (two boys on stage), and interacted with the crowd.

The judges for the afternoon were Tanya Haseley, Exevial Smith, Monique Fletcher (all students) and Lily Gayle of the Jamaica Observer. They adjudged Rojay Butler to be the winner of the day, with Delano McNab and Samantha Smith placing second and third respectively.
