KINGSTON, Jamaica—Young Jamaica is renewing its call for the resignation of Member of Parliament (MP) and JACDEN Limited Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dennis Gordon, as well as Opposition Spokesman on Finance and PAC Chairman Julian Robinson, after JACDEN was named in an Auditor General’s report for unlawfully benefiting from the University Hospital of the West Indies’ tax-exempt status.

The youth arm of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) in a media release on Thursday, in making reference to a media interview, said it finds it unfortunate that Robinson has elected to adopt the role of “explainer-in-chief” for his fellow senior PNP member whose company is embroiled in the unlawful tax exemption scandal.

“It is also disappointing and disgraceful that Robinson, as PAC chairman, has elected to be dismissive of the call for Dennis Gordon to be held accountable for the company he owns being party to what the auditor general identified as an unlawful and inappropriate transaction with the University Hospital of the West Indies,” the group said.

It added that Robinson’s comments are dismissive and contemptuous and appear to wrongly assume that JACDEN’S repayment after participating in a process described by the auditor general as unlawful and inappropriate is sufficient.

“The PAC chairman is required to be fair, balanced, and strident in support of accountability, particularly concerning the use of public funds and adherence to Jamaican law. Robinson’s comments on the JACDEN/UHWI matter confirm that he has fallen woefully short of this standard,” Young Jamaica added.
