Scramble for places in Confed Super League
DAVIS PEN, Trelawny — The top four teams in the Jamaica Football Federation’s (JFF) Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League will be jockeying for favourable positions as the preliminary rounds come to a close today with a full set of matches.
Leaders Sandals Whitehouse, on 48 points, need only a draw away to Salt Marsh United at Davis Pen to secure the top position, but the other three teams could finish anywhere from second to fourth places depending on their results.
Granville FC are in second place on 45 points and will play away to Jericho Rangers at Watson Taylor Park in Lucea. Savannah SC are a point back on 44 and host fourth-placed Wadadah FC-42 points at Frome in what could be the most competitive game of the round.
Wadadah FC and Savannah SC played out a 2-2 draw in the first round, and a draw today would favour the Westmoreland club as it would see them retaining third place and avoid having to meet Sandals Whitehouse in the semi-finals that start next weekend.
For Wadadah FC to get out of fourth place they must at least beat Savannah SC to move a place up where they would most likely face off against Granville FC in an all St James semi-final.
Granville FC should get the better of Jericho Rangers who will be relegated at the end of the season along with Holland United, Tomorrow’s People and Violet Kickers.
In other games scheduled, Violet Kickers will meet Beaches Negril at the UDC field and Village United and Montego Bay Boys Club will meet at Elleston Wakeland Centre in Falmouth.
Meanwhile, in one game played on Friday, Beaches beat Jericho Rangers 4-0 with Kemar Dawkins, scoring twice to take his tally of goals to 14, equal to Savannah SC’s Michael Kerr at the top of the scoring table.
Nicardo Mairs and Kevon Thompson also scored for Beaches Negril.
