Get certified as a personal trainer
GYMKHANA Limited will be hosting an international certification body from the United States to ensure that trainers in Jamaica possess the requisite certification necessary to guide people in safely achieving their fitness goals.
Gymkhana’s General Manager Peter Morris said the gym has always sought to ensure that their trainers and instructors were certified and equipped to guide members to achieve “total fitness with a difference”.
“We have hosted AFAA, which is the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, for the past 10 years,” Morris said. “We chose AFAA because they provide the most widely accepted personal trainer and group fitness instructor certifications globally.”
Gymkhana says it continues to offer the programme, which is open to anyone who wants to become a personal trainer or group fitness instructor, in an effort to establish a standard in the fitness industry across Jamaica.
Morris continued: “One of the differences that set us apart from other gyms is the fact that our trainers are certified and continue to renew their certifications. They are able to be on top of changes and improvements in the industry and pass them on to our members. Without these AFAA courses in Jamaica, trainers would have to travel overseas to attain this level of certification.”
He said bringing AFAA to Jamaica “is an excellent opportunity for entrepreneurs to equip themselves for unlimited earning potential in personal or group fitness instruction and add value to a growing industry”.
Taking a progressive approach, Gymkhana issued invitations to other gyms and encouraged them to enrol their trainers, noting that competition should not stand in the way of the health and well-being of those who seek to improve their health and fitness at different gyms.
The New Kingston-based gym hosts AFAA Personal Training certification from June 26 to June 28 and AFAA Group Fitness certification on July 11th, 2015, beginning at 9:00 am each day.
