Salcia Slack set to compete in up to 16 events at 3-day NCAA Div 2 Champs
JAMAICAN athlete Salcia Slack is set to attempt a truly herculean task starting today as she is entered in six individual events, including the heptathlon and one relay event for New Mexico Highlands University in the NCAA Division Two Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan.
According to an article first posted by Flo Track website, Slack could compete in a minimum of 13 events over the three days, or as many as 16 if she qualifies for the finals in all her events.
In addition to the heptathlon, which is seven events over two days, Slack is entered in the long jump, 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, shot put and triple jump, and is part of the school’s 4x400m relay team.
The heptathlon will start today where she will do four events — 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m — as well as the individual long jump and 400m hurdles.
On Friday she will complete the heptathlon with the long jump, javelin and 800m, and will also compete in the 100m hurdles and 4x400m; while on Saturday she will contest the shot put and triple jump, and if she qualifies, the finals in both hurdles events and the finals of the 4x400m are also down to be contested.
The former Holmwood Technical and UTech athlete, who still holds the national junior record in the heptathlon, is the NCAA Division Two record holder in the event with 6,141 points and the 10th best all time of any college student in the US, regardless of division, according to Flo Track.
