Cornwall teams feature in Scotia prep school cricket

EMANN got by Mt Alvernia by just four runs in a close match in the Scotia Prep School Cricket Competition on Thursday in the Cornwall county in Montego Bay.

Emann won the toss and decided to bat making 115 for 4 in 20 overs. Sterling Cleron top-scored with 14, while Joshua Davis bagged two for 24 in four overs.

Mt Alvernia came up short when they closed the innings at 111 all out with Timothy Simpson, 10, getting into double figures. Djaun Broodie (2-29 off four overs) and Kristoff Morris (2-21 from four overs) were the main wicket-takers.

There was excitement in the match between Mobay and Builders which went to Mobay by 10 wickets. Mobay won the toss and invited Builders to take first strike and were muscled out for just 48. Kalrick Powell (4-8 off three overs) and Ruthan Brown (3-11 off two overs) got the bulk of the wickets to fall.

Mobay made 49 without loss in five overs to win easily with Gunar Blake, 20, contributing the most runs.

St Mary’s took on Hemmingay and overpowered them by 51 runs. St Mary’s took the benefit of the toss and made 137 for 8 in 20 overs. Dwight Rowe, 18, and Travis Peterkin, 14, were the main run-getters. Dejaun Whorms (3-33 from three overs), and Kide Grant (2-2 from four overs) got among the wickets.

Hemmingay fell well short of the total when they were all out for 86 in 15.3 overs. Miguel Davis, 18, was a big contributor to the total. Travis Peterkin (4-16 from four overs), and Tajor Brown (3-19 from four overs) were the main wicket-takers.

The final Cornwall county match went to St James, who defeated Supreme by 48 runs after scoring 107 for 7 in 20 overs. Anil Braham, 26, and Jeonjn Anderson, 11, were the only batsmen to get into double figures, while Patrick Lawson bagged 2-23 from two overs.

Supreme were then skittled out for 59. The team’s female player Gabriella Bryan did well with the ball to get four wickets for 15 in four overs. Anil Braham followed up with 3 for 10 in four overs.

There were three matches in Surrey county which went to Hydel, Vaz and St Andrew.

Defending champions Hydel ran away with a big win over Ardenne by 123 runs. Hydel were invited to bat and made 146 for 8 in their 25 overs. Three batsmen got among the runs — Najair Byfield with 27, Ramsie Mattis with 26, and Norris Tenn with 22. Daniel Folowosele 3-16 from five overs and Brian Charles Largie chipped in with 2 for 36, also from five overs.

Ardenne were no match for Hydel after only managing 23 all out and losing six wickets on 17. The bulk of the wickets went to Demarco Darling with 5-6 in three overs and one ball, and Najair Byfield with 2-2 from two overs.

Mona won the toss and fielded against Vaz, who were all out for 65 with Kyle Gouldbourne getting 18 runs. Zacrey Johnson was the main wicket-taker after ending with 3 for 14 in three overs.

Heavy rains halted the match when Mona were on 51 for six in the 15th overs. The umpires determined that Vaz had a superior net run rate of 2.6 to Mona’s 2.5.

St Andrew also won on a better net run rate of 8.44 to Sts Peter & Paul’s 4.77 after their match was also halted by rain. St Andrew closed their innings at 211 for 3 in 25 overs with Hannibal D’Aguilar scoring 98 not out with nine fours. Kymmni Getfield with 29 and Kyle Whyms with 27 gave good support. Gabriel Todd 1-47 from four overs got a wicket.

Sts Peter & Paul were struggling at 62 for 7 when the rains halted the match. Only Gabriel Todd with 16 not out had contributed any meaningful score at that point. Allan Isaacs 3-23 from five overs got the most wickets.
