Good times for Popcaan

DANCEHALL singjay Popcaan is featured on the single I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times) by English producer and remix artiste Jamie xx.

The track also features American rapper Young Thug.

I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times) is taken from Jamie xx’s second studio album In Colour, which is scheduled for a June 1 release date on the British label XL Recordings.

The song samples a cappella group The Persuasions’ 1972 song Good Times.

This is not the first time Popcaan is collaborating with an international act. Last year, the singjay (given name Andre Sutherland) teamed with British singer Melissa Steele on the top 10 UK single Kisses for Breakfast.

His voice was also sampled by rapper Kanye West on the track Guilt Trip, which was featured on West’s 2013 album Yeezus. And, a year before that, he was featured on rapper Pusha T’s song Blocka.

Now signed to Mixpak Records, Popcaan released his debut album Where We Come From last June. The set peaked at number two on the Billboard Reggae album chart.

Popcaan was nominated for the MOBO Award in the Best Reggae Act category in September.

Jamie xx, whose real name is Jamie Smith, is known both as a solo act and as a member of the London-based band The xx.

The 26-year-old has produced for international acts including Alicia Keys and rapper Drake. He produced the title track on Drake’s 2011 album, Take Care, which features singer Rihanna.

Jamie xx has production credits on Alicia Keys’ When It’s All Over, featured on her Girl on Fire album.

As a remix artiste, Jamie xx has added his touch to Adele’s Rolling in the Deep and Florence, and the Machine’s You’ve Got the Love.
