Jay-5 striking while iron’s hot
RISING dancehall deejay Jay-5 feels his career has gotten a boost with his performance at House of Blues in Hollywood, California, two weeks ago.
“It was a spectacular experience. Not only was the show sold out, but the fans were very receptive of the songs that I did from my catalogue. The venue is famous for bringing some of the hottest acts in entertainment, so getting a chance to perform there is definitely a plus,” the deejay told the Jamaica Observer.
Buoyed by his House of Blues gig, Jay-5 says he’s keeping his foot on the throttle.
“I have been spending a lot of time in the studios, especially with noted producer Chris Hart from Green Island Media. I have never been more serious about my career. I am applying similar principles to that of a nine-to-five job, and I have faith that it will all work out,” said Jay-5.
His single, Dancehall Mackarena, is slated for a June 9 release. The Hot Box-produced track will be distributed by VPal Music.
Jay-5 (given name Omar Forsythe) is from Gayle in St Mary. After working in the hotel sector for a few years, he migrated to the United States.
While in California, he got involved in acting and made small appearances in episodes of CSI Miami, Franklyn and Family Time.
Now in his mid-30s, he is known for tracks including Bet Anything, Likkle Bwoy and Shake It Senorita.
