Rapist among 6 convicted in Manchester
MANCHESTER, Jamaica – The Manchester Police Division, according to a release from the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit, continues to reap success in the High Court, as they secured the conviction of six people for various crimes.
For murder, 22-year-old Andrew Parker of Comfort district, Manchester, and 20-year-old Kevin Allen of Burke Road, Old Harbour in St Catherine, were both convicted.
Parker was convicted for a murder, which reportedly occurred on Saturday, October 15. Parker, along with two of his friends, reportedly entered Eric Hawthorn’s shop in Bonito Crescent, Mandeville, and shot him several times. He was sentenced on May 19 to life imprisonment and is eligible for parole after 35 years.
While Allen was given two life sentences to run concurrently for the murders of two brothers, Corey and Trishan Benjamin, in Palmetto Pen, Clarendon, on July 14, 2010.
Reports are that Allen and another man, who is now deceased, shot and killed both brothers.
Allen will be eligible for parole after 20 years.
Thirty-three-year-old Delroy Smith of Cedar Gardens, Mandeville, was convicted of manslaughter, which was committed against a security guard at Lane Plaza on Manchester Road, on July 17, 2012.
Smith was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment at hard labour.
While Patrick Green was convicted of two counts of rape, robbery with aggravation, illegal possession of a firearm, grievous sexual assault, and buggery.
Reports are that the complainant parked her car in her garage and upon exiting, Green held her at gunpoint and brought her to a house in a Mandeville community where he raped her. He was later held in St James and handed over to lawmen in Mandeville.
Green was sentenced to 15 years hard labour on each count, to run concurrently.
Nineteen-year-old Dylon Woolingston of Bloomfield Street, Mandeville, was convicted on illegal possession of a firearm after a search of his premises revealed a homemade weapon.
He was subsequently arrested and charged on November 24, 2014 and on June 11, Woolingston was sentenced to 18 months hard labour.
Romaine Russell, 25, was also convicted for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition on June 18. He was sentenced to five years hard labour and two years hard labour, respectively. The sentences are to run concurrently.
Reports are that on May 14, police were on mobile patrol when Russell was accosted, searched and the weapon found.
