VOWS – The Sum of Our Love

When Krista-Gaye Moore met Christopher Melbourne in 2007, in a math class to boot, she had no inkling that destiny was being written on their hearts. Seven years later they would exchange wedding vows in the presence of 95 family members and friends.

Vows shares their love story.

How they met…

Krista-Gaye, who’s now a diagnostic radiographer at the Bustamante Hospital for Children, and her husband Christopher, a quantity surveyor for Sandals Resort International, met during CAPE Mathematics evening classes. He was a student at Wolmers’ Boys School and she at Ardenne High School.

“Part of the orientation,” shared Krista-Gaye, “included an icebreaker where we introduced ourselves and shared our expectations of the course. Being the shy person I am, I was somewhat nervous, but relieved when our tutor forgot to call on me (whew!)

Christopher, however, had noticed me and requested an introduction. His persistence, charm and chivalry did not escape me. By the end of the class we both knew it was the start of something… We were courting after a year, and, with Christ at the helm, built a relationship on a solid foundation.

The Proposal…

Chris’s proposal far exceeded my expectations. I am not easily surprised, and usually very keen, but this one was unforeseen. His company was sending him on a three months’ assignment overseas. He proposed the night before he left. I was getting ready for bed when he turned over to me to kiss me goodnight. When we kissed I felt something unusual. Puzzled, I pulled back and he went on his knee, professed his love, and asked for my hand in marriage, and I said YES!!!

The ceremony…

I Found Love by BeBe & CeCe Winans introduced the bridal procession to the morning ceremony housed in the Beer Garden at Hotel Four Seasons, Kingston. Krista-Gaye was gorgeous in an ivory A-line trumpet dress from Bliss Bridal Boutique with beaded embellishments, and orange Bridget sandals, her hair curled and pulled to the side under her blusher veil. Her bridegroom was dapper in an ivory suit from Beautiful Brides and Mr Tux with a caramel vest and tie and Stacy Adams shoes. The marriage was officiated by Reverend Calvin Matthews.

The reception…

2Face’s African Queen played as the bridal party entered the reception while Incredible by Ne-Yo signalled the arrival of the newly-weds. Hotel Four Seasons hosted the rustic-themed reception, decorated by Marlon Banton. Guests wrote well-wishes on a heart-shaped board ahead of sitting at tables each labelled with the names of the 10 most romantic chocolates in the world – significant to the newly-weds, as Christopher would regularly gift Krista-Gaye exquisite chocolates.

Emcee Dave Reid ably handled the formalities which included the blessing, unveiling, and cutting of the marigold and blue coloured fruit cake sprinkled with colourful flora by Pauline Keene, several toasts and the couple’s first dance as husband and wife to Heatwave’s Always & Forever and Sly & Robbie presents No-Maddz’ Romance. The groom’s reply included a serenade with his wife to N’Sync’s This I Promise You.

Christopher and Krista-Gaye spent the night at Hotel Four Seasons before jetting off to Sandals Royal Bahamian Spa Resort & Offshore Island in Bahamas for a glorious honeymoon.
