JUKE Boxx Productions, former management team for dancehall artiste Busy Signal, has dismissed claims made by Turf Music Entertainment in relation to the artiste’s recent arrest in Trinidad.

The singjay was arrested on Saturday night at his hotel shortly before performing at Together As One concert. It is alleged he failed to repay a promoter US$37,088 from 2013.

Earlier this week, Turf Music Entertainment — which currently manages Busy Signal — sent out a release advising they were unaware of a contract with Trinidad’s Hot Pepper Entertainment and the agreement was made by his previous management.

According to Juke Boxx Productions, the Trinidadian promoter did enter into a contractual agreement with them on April 9, 2013, to book several artistes, one of whom was Busy Signal (Reanno Gordon).

“Hot Pepper Entertainment subsequently sent incomplete deposits in incremental wire transfers totalling approximately US$30,000 to secure the artiste’s performance at this engagement. Hot Pepper Entertainment was unable to honour their contractual obligation to remit the outstanding deposit amounts, despite numerous extensions and the demonstration of leniency,” said the Juke Boxx team in a release.

The release also stated that after separating with Busy Signal, all documents relating to the artiste’s business affairs, and future contractual obligations were turned over to his new management. This also included the deposit amount due to him of US$22,500 for them to proceed with the engagement at their discretion.

“It is, therefore, rather strange that Busy Signal and his new management team claim ignorance of this issue, when all details and amounts collected on their behalf were handed over to them. It is also our understanding that they chose to refund a portion of the deposit collected to the promoter,” the release continued.
