MY KINGSTON – Nicholas and Dominic Chung

Directors of Spades Lounge

What are your earliest memories of Kingston?

Nicholas Chung (NC): Playing my first football competition for Sts Peter and Paul Preparatory.

Domininc Chung (DC): Always going to my dad’s business, Chung’s Catering, after school during

the summer.

What is the most memorable meal you have enjoyed in Kingston?

NC: Ackee and saltfish with white rice from Norma’s on Whitehall Avenue.

DC: Oxtail and butter beans from Country Style in Stony Hill.

What would be your recommendations to a first-time visitor to Kingston?

NC: Visit Emancipation Park, Devon House, enjoy an evening at Spades Lounge sipping on our signature shots, and partying at Fiction Night Club into the wee hours of the morning.

DC: I would recommend a trip to the Bob Marley Museum and an evening at Spades Lounge.

What would you do if you were mayor of Kingston for a day?

NC: Visit the volatile communities in Kingston with a noted motivational speaker and offer

empowerment seminars for young men.

DC: Fix the roads and have a charity event for homeless children.

With you both being under 25 and directors of the newly opened Spades Lounge, what do

you hope to ultimately accomplish?

NC: Build our brand and get to the top of the entertainment business.

DC: To have the biggest entertainment brand in Jamaica.

Do you believe that your youth will inhibit respect and confidence from older counterparts in the lounge and entertainment businesses?

NC: Yes and no. Some people do feel we’re not ready because we are young, and others are

anxious to see what we will bring to the table because we have fresh ideas because of our youth. Either way we will work hard and demand respect.

DC: Yes…in some instances, however, once they see the evidence of our work they will come to

respect our craft and position.

How are you positioning Spades Lounge to be a distinct destination that persons will be

eager to frequent?

NC: The staff complement is very dynamic, from our marketing team to our hostesses. The style and decor and our theme events will create a strong pull.

DC: As our tag line states: ‘Rank your cards, drink with friends’ When visitors come in they will see the uniqueness in the decor, excellent customer service and drink mixes like no other in

Kingston.

You have both expressed interest in building an entertainment brand. What will be the

Chung brothers’ mark on said brand?

NC: The youngest entrepreneurs to build a chain of upscale lounges in the island.

DC: The most long-standing and profitable lounge in Kingston.

What would you pinpoint as the challenges faced by the young Jamaican male?

NC: Bad influences and staying on your career path, being focused on your goals and going to

school.

DC: The stigma of negativity and thinking that every young man is ‘bad’, but if given a chance we can prove otherwise.

What cologne are you splashing?

NC: The new Guess Man

DC: Ralph Lauren Polo Limited Edition

Share the title of the last book you read.

NC: Art of War by Sun Tzu

DC: Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki

What big-ticket item did you last splurge on for yourself?

NC: I recently bought a Subaru WRX STI V-Limited.

DC: A Carlton Brown suit.

Nicki Minaj or Rihanna?

NC: Minaj. She has a sculpted body.

DC: I prefer Nicki, he has an attractive derrière.

What are you jamming to on your iPod playlist?

NC: Meek Mill. Adonia, Jesse Royal

DC: The new Meek Mill album

Who is your professional idol?

NC: My dad Jerome Chung because of his work ethic and how much he achieved early in his

life. At 16 he bought his first car; and at 19 his first house, solely from his earnings.

DC: Real estate mogul Jay Morrison because he was a former drug dealer and felon, but turned

his life around through self-motivation and perseverance and is now a real estate mogul

What is your life philosphy?

NC: People are put here for a purpose, and if we remember that when obstacles come

our way we will rise above them.

DC: Live the life you love. Love the life you live.

Brothers Dominic (left)
and Nicholas Chung
(second right) with their
parents Jerome and
Nicola Chung cut the
celebratory cake at the
opening of Spades
Lounge on July 24.
