THE mother of murdered female constable Crystal Thomas has reacted with indifference to the death in hospital of one of the men suspected of gunning down her daughter while she was on her way home from work in July.

“Mi nuh have no feelings for him because mi pickney dead and that won’t bring her back,” Jacqueline Brown said Saturday during an interview with the Jamaica Observer at her Kitson Town home in St Catherine.

Asked if the death of the suspect robbed her of an opportunity to find out if he really was the killer, Brown said: “I can’t say if is him kill her. The police seh so, and dem a go kill more and seh dem involved. I would like to know who did it, but then again, even if wi know it nah benefit wi.”

“That a fi the police,” said a community member, who was among a group of men sitting in Brown’s yard.

Brown said: “I can’t go and judge him because I don’t know who did it. My daughter done dead already.”

Twenty-nine-year-old Marlon Cherrington, otherwise called ‘Kemar Anderson’, of Kidd Lane, Kingston 11, died Friday, days after being assaulted at the Hunts Bay police lock-up, where he was being held. He was arrested shortly after Thomas was shot three weeks ago on a public passenger bus on Spanish Town Road in Kingston.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Dr Carl Williams has ordered a probe into the death of the prisoner.

Williams said in a release on Saturday that he requested the urgent completion of internal investigations into the circumstances that led to the serious injuries sustained by Cherrington. He said that “the Jamaica Constabulary Force has been co-operating fully with INDECOM to ensure the speedy completion of all aspects of this investigation”.

Thomas’s funeral service will be held at Ebenezer Fellowship Church of God Seventh-day, in Spanish Town, on Sunday, August 9.

On Saturday, during the interview, Brown couldn’t stop lamenting the death of her daughter, and said that she would have been in a better place emotionally if her daughter was even paralysed and living.

“It would have been my greatest pleasure if she was crippled and I have her over the yard and get help with her. If she neva dead, mi wouldn’t mash up so,” Brown said.
