Cocktails With – Nadine Beaumont-Walters

Lunchtime finds us barside at the Eurocentric eatery F&B Downtown — inside the Swiss Stores on Harbour Street — with financial consultant Nadine Beaumont-Walters. She’s five minutes early for our meeting, and has already charmed the socks off Swiss Stores proprietor Peter Bangerter by the time we arrrive. The statuesque Walters possesses that girl-next-door magnetism which makes convo effortless, and in little or no time, we’re talking lottery dreams, Warren Buffett, and keeping her locks natural.

What are you sipping?

Appleton V/X and orange juice.

What attracted you to the profession of crunching numbers?

I have always excelled at any subject that has to do with numbers; maybe it’s the intrinsically analytical Virgo in me. Finance became one of my passions when I began university; not only does it deal with “crunching numbers” but also encompasses the analysis and management of those “numbers”.

Let’s play what-ifs: You’ve just won a multimillion-dollar payout from the lottery company and have several possible business start-ups to consider. What would be your entrepreneurial venture of choice and why?

This one is easy. If I were to win a multimilliondollar payout I would pump every last dollar of it into my label Nadine Maria. Fashion, more specifically style, is another passion of mine. I’m actually premiering my swimsuit collection under the Nadine Maria label in January 2016 and I’m very excited about it.

Finance, like science, is oftentimes not among the most sought-after job choices for young people. What has sustained your interest in the field?

What many people may not realise is that financial markets are basically the core drivers of the global economy in which I have a natural interest. It is also very dynamic, making it hard to get bored with.

What is the best financial advice you have ever received?

Rule one: Never lose money. Rule two: never forget rule number one. Warren Buffett, one of the most successful investors in history, is known for this famous quote. He has amassed a multimillion-dollar fortune simply by investing wisely.

Who is your professional role model?

My professional role model is and will always be my father, Linton Walters, who not only prided himself on teaching his children that humility is the greatest form of self-praise, but also that hard work can trump talent on its worst day. As I climb life’s ladder professionally and personally I am always humbled by my achievements and grateful for them.

What perfume are you spraying?

Amore by Vince Camuto is my current fave.

Little black dress or jeans?

Jeans, of course. Mainly because of the versatility. A pair of jeans can take you from running errands on a Saturday to a fun night out on the town, depending on what it’s paired with.

Flats or stilettos?

Being six feet tall, one would think I’d shy away from heels; however, I break out those bad boys at every opportunity presented. Stilettos just add that pop of finesse no female can resist.

Who does your hair?

Being two years natural, I currently only trust myself with this mane.

Who does your nails?

I’m a keep-it-simple type of lady, a bit of self-applied clear polish on a regular day, or a dash of colour on a night out.

What’s playing on your iPod or car stereo right now?

Being a soca fanatic I currently have the Dusk 2015 promo CD in my car on repeat.

What five words best describe Nadine?

Fun-loving, loyal, perfectionist, observant and friendly.

What is your idea of the perfect man?

I don’t believe in the concept of “the perfect man”. However, my ideal man must be loyal to a fault, charismatic, respectful and have the ability to make me laugh in the midst of turmoil.

What is your idea of the perfect date?

I’m really a very laid-back individual, I’m not in the least fussy about dates. As long as the time spent is memorable and unique I will be politely pleased.

Where is your go-to spot to relax?

The beach. There’s something about waves crashing on the sand that gives me a sense of calm.

Where do you see yourself five years from now?

Five years from now I will be a very successful financial analyst and entrepreneur.

And, hopefully wed, with a little one or two.
